Classical Era
The word "classicism" is associated with the cultures of Ancient Rome and Greece. During the 18th century, the Age of Enlightenment saw a shift to rational thinking among philosophers, and a renewed interest in classicism among musicians. Composers of this new era emphasised the classical ideals of proportion, symmetry, and balance in their music.
